7月27日第八届国际月球探测与利用大会在北京隆重闭幕。中科院空间中心主任吴季当选为国际月球探测工作组（International Lunar Exploration Working Group, ILEWG）主席。
     国际月球探测工作组于1995成立，是国际上在月球探测与利用方面唯一的合作协调机制。其成员来自欧洲空间局（ESA）、美国航空与宇航局（NASA），俄罗斯航天局（ROSCOSMOS），日本航天宇航机（JAXA），中国国家航天局（CNSA），印度航天机构（ISRO）等近十个国家的航天局和研究机构。该工作组每年组织召开一次国际月球探测与利用大会，对各国月球探测项目的进展，月球科学研究与利用，月球探测工程技术问题以及和月球探测相关的科普、社会和法律等问题进行研讨。
    中科院空间中心主任吴季研究员是本次国际月球探测与利用大会国际程序委员会主任。他于2004年当选国际月球探测工作组副主席。在2006年7月26日举行的国际月球探测工作组成员会议上，全体代表一致同意吴季担任新一届工作组主席。同时当选的副主席为意大利空间科学家西蒙娜达?蒂匹颇和美国航空宇航局探测项目首席科学家麦克.沃格。工作组常任执行主任仍由欧洲空间局SMART-1项目科学家本阿德.福昂担任。
    中科院空间中心主任吴季目前还担任我国嫦娥工程科学探测有效载荷工程总指挥，地球空间探测双星计划应用系统总师和总指挥，他还在多项空间科学方面的国际合作计划中任职，并于2006年当选国际宇航科学院通信院士。

附：国际月球探测工作组章程

     根据1994年6月比登堡宣言，全球空间机构1995年4月3-7日在汉堡月球讨论会上通过决定成立国际月球探测工作组（ILEWG），其章程如下：
1） 发展月球探测的全球策略
2） 建立交流和合作活动的论坛和机制
3） 实施国际协作与合作
     为了在有兴趣参与的机构间确保交流，工作组同意建立电子通信网络，用来交换与月球活动相关的科学、技术和项目方面的信息。
所有有兴趣参加的空间机构将推荐2-3名工作组成员，工作组每两年将在成员当中选择一名主席。
    工作组将定期召开会议，至少每年一次，并将每两年领导组织一次国际学术会议讨论月球探测的现状和进展。
     正式的工作报告将在COSPAR大会上报告。

ILEWG Charter

Following the Beatenberg Declaration (3 June 1994), space agencies from all over the world met in Hamburg, at the EGS Moon Workshop (3-7 April 1995) and in full agreement decided to create an International Lunar Exploration Working Group (ILEWG). The charter of ILEWG is:
1) To develop an international strategy for the exploration of the Moon
2) To establish a forum and mechanisms for the communication and coordination of activities
3) To implement international coordination and cooperation
In order to facilitate communication among all interested parties ILEWG agrees to establish an electronic communication network for exchange of science, technology and programmatic information related to lunar activities.
All interested space agencies will appoint two or three members. A chairperson is selected among the ILEWG members every two years.
ILEWG will meet regularly, at least, once a year, and will lead the organization of an International Conference every two years in order to discuss the state of lunar exploration.
Formal reports will be give at COSPAR meetings.
